Wonder Woman, too naive as Messiah

To be honest, yesterday I saw Wonder Woman on cinema subsequently to Spider-Man.

Wonder Woman is a heroine of DC comics. DC is as famous as Marvel in the US. She appeared in "Batman v Superman" firstly. And this film describes her origin.

My past entry: Batman v Superman, for fans only

And, unfortunately, I did not enjoy this movie, despite its popularity.

(This entry mentions the core of the story-line.)

Wonder Woman was originally a princess of paradise. In the island, there was no male, and she was said to have been made from clay. She was told that her family would fight against Ares, the god of war, who brings the war and malice to the world.

The main story of this film begins at the age of WWI. A man, Steve Trevor, accidentally reaches the island. He is a British spy carrying a top secret from a German military lab and was chased by German troop. Wonder Woman helps him, convincing that Ares is behind of the war, to go along with him to the UK.

The man reported that Germany was developing a lethal chemical weapon. But the leaders of the UK prioritize the truce with Germany, ignoring his warning. Wonder Woman decides to defeat the German general who is planning to develop the toxic gas. And Trevor accepts her to bring her to the battlefront.

Actually, I did not understand his behavior. For him, Wonder Woman must be a crazy girl believing the devil. Why did he expose his life to a serious risk? As a spy, he must have experienced many many complicated situations. There must be a certain reason for him to help her, for example, he had abandoned his daughter who resembles Wonder Woman.

On the other hand, Wonder Woman herself is described as a naive girl. She had not met any men in her born place. She had not worn any feminine dress. But she understands several languages, and have vast knowledge. Then, she must know the complexity of the human behavior and society. In my sense, she looks intellectual but stupid. It was disappointing.

She kills general Ludendorff whom she has believed as the avatar of Ares. But, the war never ends. Then, her act is merely a murder. Nonetheless, she does not regret her behavior. It reminds me the massacre by crusadors.

In the last scene, it is revealed that Wonder Woman is a daughter of Zeus himself. And, Ares names himself the God of Truth, and he explains that he has been giving the destructive knowledge to many persons so that humankind would proceed to the ruin. It is an act of Lucifer.

Therefore, Wonder Woman is a symbol of the innocent virgin. However, is it truly acceptable for many women? I sense it is a very stereotypical image of women.

In the DC Comics series, Batman films, for example, expresses the dark side of humanity. Comparing to them, Wonder Woman looks very superficial.

By the way, the 3D graphics were not attractive in this film.

Personal Rating: 2 (poor)
